"ܛܘܒܢܐ ܡܪܝ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܒܓܢܣܗ ܣܘܪܝܝܐ. ܐܒܘܗܝ ܕܝܢ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܢ ܢܨܝܒܝܢ ܕܬܚܘ̈ܡܐ. ܐܡܗ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܐܡܝܕ ܡܕܝܢܬܐ."1 "Le bienheureux Mar Éphrem était Syrien par sa famille. Son père était de la ville frontalière de Nisibe; sa mère était de la ville d’Amid."1
