Abstract

Luke (Harqlean version) [http://syriaca.org/work/164] is a translation of Luke (literary tradition) [http://syriaca.org/work/9648] made by Thomas of Harqel in 615 or 616, perhaps as a revision of the New Testament (Philoxenian version) [http://syriaca.org/work/10536] . It imitates the Greek text closely and provides variant readings using symbols and marginal notes modeled after Origen's Hexaplaric Septuagint. Multiple revisions included efforts to bring it into alignment with the Byzantine text and a 12th-century revision by Dionysios bar Salibi. Luke (Harqlean version) [http://syriaca.org/work/164] is extant in abundant manuscript witnesses, beginning in the 8th century.15
