Barṣawmā was the head of mourners at a monastery near Melitene. He was a disciple of Abraham of the high mountain. He was a rigid monk who chased the Jews out of Jerusalem. He was a friend of Dioscorus of Alexandria, leader at the Robber Council of 449. He mobilized his monks to rehabilitate Eutyches. He condemned the priest Flavian at the Council of Chalcedon and was expelled at the Council of Chalcedon.
