“ܬܫܥܝܬܐ ܡܥܠܝܬܐ ܘܫܒܝܚܬܐ ܘܫܡܝܢܝܬܐ ܕܣܓܝ ܡܬܗܪܐ ܠܢܦܫ̈ܬܢ ܡܬܐܡܪܐ ܩܕܡܝܟܘܢ ܐܘ ܟܢܘܫܝܐ ܕܐܒܗ̈ܬܐ ܩܕܝܫ̈ܐ.” 1
“Une histoire sublime, louable et céleste, très étonnante pour nos âmes, est dite devant vous, assemblée des saints Pères.” 1

“Le bienheureux prêtre Abbâ Jean était, comme on nous l’a raconté, originaire d’un village appelé Behnêsâ, du Sa‘îd supérieur, Sanâ en langue égyptienne.” 1

“Et il est parvenu près du Christ son Seigneur, et il a revêtu la couronna à sa droite, comme l’a dit notre Seigneur dans son Évangile: “Comme moi je suis, là sera aussi mon serviteur.” Et maintenant, mes bien-aimés, ce que vous nous avez entendu dire des hauts faits du saint Abbâ Jean est comme nous l’avons trouvé selon notre force… et que soit renforcée notre espérance de profiter avec lui de cet héritage céleste, par les prières et les supplications de la sainte Vierge… Amen. Et sur tous ceux qui font mémoire du saint Abba Jean… et que la droite de sa miséricorde les couvre maintenant… Amen. Et qu’il empêche les disputes entre eux, lui à qui… Amen.” 1
