"ܥܡܘܣ ܗܿܘ ܬܡܝܗܐ ܘܪܒܐ ܒܢܒ̈ܝܐ. ܟܕ ܠܘܬ ܡܘܟܟܐ ܘܡܬܚܬܝܘܬܐ ܡܬܩܦܣ ܗܘܐ: ܘܡܡܫܚ ܗܘܐ ܠܙܥܘܪܘܬܐ ܕܝܠܗ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܘܡܥܠܝܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ. ܘܥܿܪܩ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܐܝܩܪܐ ܘܫܘܠܛܢܐ ܕܢܒܝܘܬܐ."1 "Amos, admirable et grand parmi les prophètes, étant restreint à l’abaissement et à l’humilité et mesurant sa petitesse face à la grande et sublime vocation de Dieu, fuyait l’honneur et la fonction de prophète."1
