Au mois d’Âb de l’an 620 du règne d’Alexandre de Macédoine, sous le consulat de Licinius et de Constantin, qui est l’année où il est né, sous les stratèges Julius et Baqar, aux jours de Qônâ évêque d’Édesse, ce Licinius déclencha une persécution contre l’Église et tout le peuple des chrétiens. 1

Le jour où il fut brûlé était le vendredi deux Éloul, jour où on apprit que Constantin le Grand avait commencé à quitter l’intérieur de l’Espagne pour venir à la ville de Rome en Italie…Moi Théophile, qui ai renié le mauvais héritage de mes pères et ai reconnu le Christ, j’ai eu soin d’écrire un exemplaire de ces mémoires de Habîb…Et que la poussière des pieds de ces martyrs, que j’ai reçue en courant derrière eux quand ils furent emmenés vers le couronnement, me pardonne à moi qui l’ai renié, et qu’elle me reconnaisse devant ses adorateurs, moi qui l’ai désormais reconnu. Et après l’avoir interrogé ving-sept fois le juge prononça contre Habîb la sentence de la mort par le feu. 1
