“ܕܛܘܒܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܗܢܐ ܒܣܝܢܐ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܝܚܝܕܝܐ: ܥܠ ܫܪܟܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܕܘܒܪ̈ܐ ܘܥܢܘܝܘܬܐ ܘܗܘܦܟܐ ܕܒܡܕܒܪܐ: ܕܢܫܬܥܐ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܚܙܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܫܡܥܢ̣. ܝܬܝܪܬܐ ܐܬܚܙܝܬ ܠܢ.”1 “Il nous a semblé superflu de raconter le reste de la vie, de l’ascèse et de la conduite de ce bienheureux prêtre et solitaire Bassien dans le désert, choses que nous n’avon ni vues ni entendues.”1
