"ܡܛܘܠ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܥܠ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܪܕܘ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܕܚܠܬ ܐܠܗܐ ܣܝܡܐ ܠܢ ܕܢܫܬܥܐ: ܘܒܢܝܫܐ ܕܬܫܥܝܬܢ ܥܠ ܢܨ̈ܚܢܐ ܕܕܘܒܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܢܘܕܥ̣. ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܠܐ ܟܡܢܢ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܥܠ ܢܨ̈ܚܢܐ ܕܡܝܬܪ̈ܬܐ ܗܠܝܢ."1 "Puisque donc nous nous sommes proposés de raconter l’histoire des gens qui ont marché dans le chemin de la crainte de Dieu et de faire connaître les hauts faits de leur vie à l’occasion de notre récit, nous n’avons pour cette raison pas caché ces hauts faits vertueux."1
