Prologue

Il est bon de garder le secret d’un roi, mais il est louable de proclamer les actions de Dieu. C’est en effet ce que dit l’ange à Tobie après qu’il eut récupéré la vue lui qui était aveugle, et après ces tribulations qu’il subit et desquelles il fut sauvé à cause de la piété qu’il avait. 1

ܗܘܐ ܐܢܫ ܒܕܝܪ̈ܬܐ ܕܦܠܣܛܝܢܐ: ܓܒܪܐ ܕܒܕܘܒܪ̈ܐ ܘܒܡܠܬܐ ܡܨܒܬ ܗܘ̣ܐ: ܗܘܿ ܕܡܢܗܘܢ ܕܥܙܪ̈ܘܪܐ ܒܙ̈ܢܝܐ ܟܝܬ ܘܒܣܘܥܪ̈ܢܐ ܕܝܪ̈ܝܐ ܐܬܪܒܝ: ܙܘܣܝܡܐܣ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘ̣ܐ ܫܡܐ ܠܗܢܐ ܣܒܐ. 1
Il y avait dans les monastères de Palestine un homme à la vie et à la parole distinguées, qui dès le berceau avait grandi dans les moeurs et les affaires monastiques; le nom de ce vieillard était Zosime. 1

Or Zosime mourut aussi dans ce monastère, âgé de près de cent ans, comme il l’avait dit… Mais moi, selon ma force, j’ai écrit cette histoire, sans honorer la moindre chose avant la vérité. Que Dieu qui fait des choses grandes et admirables… Amen. 1
