“ܗܝܺܓܡܘܽܢܺܘܬܐ ܪܘܝܺܚܬܳܐ ܘܐܰܬܪ̈ܘܳܬܐ ܣܰܓܝ̈ܐܐ ܕܥܰܠ ܢܗܰܪ ܚܰܒܘܪ ܒܶܝܬ ܪܝܫ ܥܰܝܢܳܐ ܘܰܦܪܳܬ ܕܒܰܐܪܥܳܐ ܕܰܓܙܝܺܪܬܐ ܙܟܳܐ ܥܠܶܝܗ̇ ܫܡܐ ܕܢܰܗܪܳܗ̇ ܘܐܶܬܒܰܝܬܝܰܬ ܠܗ. ܘܡܶܢ ܐܰܬܪ̈ܘܳܬܳܗ ܥܰܬܝܩ̈ܐ ܩܰܪܩܰܝܣܝܰܐ ܘܡܰܐܟܣܝܢ ܘܡܰܓܕܰܠ ܘܥܰܪܒܰܐܢ.” 1
“ولاية واسعة وبلدان جمّة على نهر الخابور بين رأس عين والفرات من ارض الجزيرة غلب عليها اسم نهرها فنسبت اليه ومن بلادها القديمة قرقيسياء وماكسين والمجدل وعَربَان” 2
“a large territory containing many towns, extending between Rish ʿAyna and the Euphrates on the banks of the Khabur in al-Jazira, from which it derived its name. Among its ancient towns are Qarqīsiyyā, Macine, Majdal and ʿArbān.`” 3
Notes
In Dolabani's translation of Barsoum's description “ܗܝܺܓܡܘܽܢܺܘܬܐ” should read “ܗܺܝܓܡܽܘܢܽܘܬܐ ”
and “ܐܰܬܪ̈ܘܳܬܳܗ” should read “ܐܰܬܪ̈ܘܳܬܳܗ̇” . Also “ܕܰܓܙܝܺܪܬܐ” should read
“ܕܓܳܙܰܪܬܐ” .
