In hagiography, Marutha of
Maypherqat, Bishop of Maypherqat is commemorated as a Doctor of the Church, and remembered as the grandson of a Persian Magian who converted to Christianity. His grandmother Mary built a church and a monastery where Marutha later studied. He became Bishop and built many churches and collected relics for the town of Maypherqat. He played an important role as representative of the Persian church before shah Yazdegerd and helped convene the Synod of Seleucia-Ctesiphon in 410.
