In hagiography: Shamuni, mother of the Seven Maccabean Martyrs was the biblical mother of the seven sons whose death is told in the book of 2 Maccabees. Although although unnamed in the biblical account, she was commemorated as a martyr in the Syriac tradition under the name Shamuni or Mary. In the Syriac account, she and her sons were martyred in Antioch in Syria.2
