Constantine the Great the Great was the Roman Emperor from 306 to 307 AD and is honored in Christian memory on account of the Edict of Milan in 313 AD which granted religious tolerance in the Roman Empire. "Arguably the most famous emperor of Late Antiquity, Constantine was the first emperor to embrace Christianity after his victory in battle in 312. He re-united the Roman Empire, thus bringing to an end the period of the Tetrarchy, and convened the first ecumenical council in Nicaea in 325."5
