                    Quand je vivais à Alexandrie, dans un endroit appelé Canope proche d’Alexandrie, me vint l’idée d’aller à Jérusalem adorer les lieux saints.
                
                
                    ܘܢܫܒܚ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܢܘܕܐ ܠܗ ܡܢ ܟܘܠܗ ܢܦܫܢ ܗܕܢ ܕܗܝܟ ܪ̈ܚܡܘܝ ܦܨܝ ܝܬܢ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܝܕ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܕܒܪܒܪܝܝ... ܐܢܐ ܕܝ ܐܡܘܢܝܣ ܬܒܝܬ ܠܝ ܠܡܝܨܪܝܢ ܘܥܡܝ ܟܘܠ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܬܒܝܐ ܡܢ ܩܘܫܛ ܒܟܪܛܝܣ... ܘܒܟܘܠ ܥܪ ܗܘܝܬ ܡܫܒܚ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܐܒܐ ܕܠܒܝܟ ܟܘܠܐ. ܗܕܢ ܕܠܗ... ܐܡܝܢ. ܗܠܝܢ ܕܝ ܐܫܟܚܝܬ ܐܢܐ ܝܘܚܢܢܝܣ ܒܪ̈ܚܡܘܝ ܕܡܪܢ ܝܣܘܣ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܓܒ ܝܚܝܕܝ ܛܐܪܘܣ ܥܠ ܓܦ ܢܘܩܛܪ: ܟܬܝ̈ܒܝܢ ܒܠܝܫܢܐ ܡܨܪܝܐ... ܕܝܬܠ ܠܢ ܡܪܢ ܝܣܘܣ ܚܘܠܩ ܥܡ ܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܒܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܐܡܝܢ.
                
                
                    Glorifions Dieu et remercions-le de toute notre âme parce qu’il nous a sauvés des mains des barbares selon sa miséricorde… Or moi, Ammonios, je suis retourné en Égypte, et avec moi toutes ces choses écrites vraiment sur parchemin… et à tout moment je glorifiais Dieu le Père tout-puissant; à lui… Amen. Moi, Jean, j’ai trouvé cela grâce à la miséricorde de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ auprès du solitaire Taros aux environs de Naucratis, écrit en langue égyptienne… Que notre Seigneur Jésus nous donne part avec eux tous à son royaume.
