"Il ya trois Grégoire, le premier, de Nazianze, théologien, le deuxième, évêque de Nysse, frère de Basile, homme grand, mais notre discours est sur Grégoire le thaumaturge, évêque de Néocésarée qui le précéda de beaucoup."1 "ܬܠܬܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܓܪܝܓܪܝܘܣ. ܚܕ ܕܐܢܙܝܢܙܘ ܡܠܠ ܐܠܗ̈ܝܬܐ̣. ܘܬܪܝܢ ܐܦܣܩܘܦܐ ܕܢܘܣܐ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܒܣܝܠܝܣ ܓܒܪܐ ܪܒܐ. ܡܠܬܢ ܕܝܢ ܥܠ ܓܪܝܓܪܝܘܣ ܣܥܿܪ ܬܕܡܪ̈ܬܐ ܗܝ. ܐܦܣܩܘܦܐ ܕܢܐܘܩܣܪܝܐ. ܗܢܐ ܕܩܕܝܡ ܠܗܠܝܢ ܢܘܓܪܐ ܕܙܒܢܐ."1

"ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܓܝܪ ܡܢ ܐܬܪܐ ܕܡܬܩܪܐ ܐܠܣܦܘܢܛܘܣ. ܒܛܘܗܡܗ ܕܝܢ ܒܪ ܐܢܫ̈ܐ ܗܘܐ ܝܕܝ̈ܥܐ. ܘܐܬܪܕܝ ܩܕܡܝܬ ܒܟܠܗܿ ܚܟܡܬܗܘܢ ܕܝܘ̈ܢܝܐ."1 "Car il était du pays appelé Hellespont, par sa famille fils de gens célèbres; il fut d’abord élevé dans toute la sagesse des Grecs."1
