Saint Mâr Maroutâ était originaire par sa race du pays du Beyt Nouhadrâ, près de Ninive, d’un village appelé Shourzaq. Ses parents étaient des gens croyants, justes, bons et aimant Dieu. ܘܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܬܪܝܨܬ ܫܘܒܚܐ ܘܒܢܛܪܘܬ ܦܘܩ̈ܕܢܐ ܩܕܝ̈ܫܐ ܢܿܢܛܪ ܠܟܠܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܢܫܡܬܐ ܐܚܪܝܬܐ. ܘܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܚܝ̈ܝܢ ܗܿܝ ܕܫܦܪܐ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܢܥܒܕ. ܘܟܕ ܡܡܿܪܝܢܢ ܒܥܿܒ̈ܕܐ ܡܝܬܪ̈ܐ ܕܐܒܘܢ. ܢܡܿܢܥ ܥܡܗ ܐܦ ܠܫܘܠܡܐ ܛܘܒܬܢܐ ܘܠܡ̣ܢܬܐ ܕܡܛܬ ܒܢܘܗܪܐ ܠܩܕܝ̈ܫܐ. ܘܟܠܢ ܐܟܚܕܐ ܒܟܠܙܒܢ ܢܣܿܩ ܪܫܘܒܚܐ... ܐܡܝܢ.
