Prologue

"Bar Pamphile Eusèbe de Césarée, quand il écrivit l’Histoire ecclésiastique en dix livres, écrivit pour ainsi dire les passions des martyrs, des évêques, des confesseurs, des femmes vaillantes et des vierges chastes qui ont puissamment combattu dans la confession du Christ notre Dieu."1 "ܒܪ ܦܡܦܝܠܣ ܐܘܣܒܝܣ ܩܣܪܝܐ. ܟܕ ܐܟܬܒ ܒܥܣܪܐ ܫܪ̈ܒܐ ܐܩܠܣܝܣܛܝܩܐ. ܐܝܟ ܕܢܐܡܪ ܚ̈ܫܐ ܕܣ̈ܗܕܐ ܘܕܐܦ̈ܣܩܘܦܐ ܬܘܒ ܘܕܡ̈ܘܕܝܢܐ: ܘܕܢ̈ܫܐ ܚܠܝܨ̈ܬܐ ܘܒܬ̈ܘܠܬܐ ܢܟ̈ܦܬܐ: ܗܠܝܢ ܕܚܝܠܬܢܐܝܬ ܥܒܕܘ ܗܘܘ ܐܓܘܢܐ ܒܡܘܕܝܢܘܬܐ ܕܡܛܠ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܐܠܗܢ."1

"ܣܝܠܒܣܛܪܘܣ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܒܛܠܝܘܬܗ ܠܩܫܝܫܐ ܩܘܪܝܢܐ ܢܩܝܦ ܡܫܡܫ ܗܘܐ. ܘܒܡܡܠܠܗ ܕܗܢܐ ܘܒ̈ܙܢܘܗܝ ܐܬܥܝܕ. ܟܕ ܡܫܡܠܐ ܚܦܝܛܐܝܬ ܘܝܨܝܦܘܬܐ ܕܒܝܬܗ."1 "Dans sa jeunesse, Silvestre servait le prêtre Quirinus, auquel il était attaché, et il s’habitua à son éloquence et à ses manières en s’acquittant avec zèle du soin de sa maison."1
