"ܥܡܘܣ ܗܿܘ ܬܗܝܪܐ ܘܪܒ ܒܢܒ̈ܝܐ ܟܕ ܠܘܬ ܡܘܟܟܐ ܘܡܬܬܚܬܝܘܬܐ ܡܬܩܦܣ: ܘܡܡܫܚ ܙܥܘܪܘܬܗ ܥܡ ܩܪܝܬܗ ܪܒܬܐ ܘܡܥܠܝܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ: ܘܥܿܪܩ ܡܢ ܐܝܩܪܐ ܕܢܒܝܘܬܐ ܗܢܐ ܟܠܗ."1 "Amos, admirable et grand parmi les prophètes, étant restreint à l’abaissement et à l’humilité et mesurant sa petitesse par rapport à la grande et sublime vocation de Dieu, fuyait tout cet honneur de la prophétie."1
