"ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܝܘ̈ܡܬܐ ܕܕܘܩܠܛܝܢܘܣ ܡܠܟܐ: ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܘܫܡܗ ܐܪܝܢܘܣ. ܘܣܠܩܘܐ ܠܐܓܒܛܘܣ: ܠܒܥܬܐ ܕܟܪ̈ܣܛܝܢܐ. ܐܝܟ ܕܢܥܒܕ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܡܕܒܚܝܢ. ܘܐܬܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܛܢܛܪܘܢ ܡܕܝܢܬܐ. ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘ̣ܐ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܗܘܿ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܐܒܝܠܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܕܫܡܗ ܗܘ̣ܐ ܦܦܢܘܛܝܣ."1 "Il y avait aux jours de l’empereur Dioclétien un gouverneur appelé Arianos. Et il était monté en Égypte à la recherche de chrétiens pour les faire sacrifier. Il arriva dans la ville de Tentiron et il y avait dans cette région un ermite dans le désert, appelé Paphnuce."1

"ܘܒܣܕܪܐ ܕܣܗ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܫܝܚܐ ܐܬܡܢܝܘ. ܘܫܠܡܘ ܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܣܗܕܘܬܗܘܢ. ܐܬܟܠܠ ܕܝܢ ܛܘܒܢܐ ܦܦܢܘܛܝܣ ܘܗܠܝܢ ܪ̈ܗܘܡܝܐ ܕܙܩ̈ܦܘܗܝ ܗܘܘ ܒܥܣܪܝܢ ܒܝܪܚܐ ܕܒܠܫܢܐ ܕܐܓܒ̈ܛܝܐ ܡܬܩܪܐ ܦܪܡܘܬ. ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܬܡܘܙ. ܘܟܠܢ ܒܐܝܠܝܢ ܬܕܡܪ̈ܬܐ ܕܐܣܬܥܪ ܒܐܝܕ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܛܘܒܢܐ ܦܦܢܘܛܝܣ ܕܛܒ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢ ܘܡ̈ܥܠܝܢ ܢܗܝܡܢ. ܘܢܘܕܐ ܘܢܣܓܘܕ ܘܢܫܒܚ ܠܐܒܐ... ܐܡܝܢ."1 "Et ils furent comptés parmi la troupe des martyrs du Christ et eux aussi achevèrent leur martyre. Or le bienheureux Paphnuce et ces Romains qui l’avaient crucifié furent couronnés le vingt du mois appelé en égyptien Pharmouti qui est Tammouz. Nous tous, croyons en ces miracles qui ont été accomplis par les mains du bienheureux Paphnuce et qui sont très grands et sublimes, et confessons, adorons et louons le Père… Amen."1
