Chongqing - [ Syriac Not Available ]

A major upper Yangtze city of southwestern China, inland river port, and gateway between Sichuan and the middle Yangtze. It historically functioned as a transport and commercial center because river navigation made it one of the chief inland nodes of western China. In the context of Syriac Christianity, finds from the Ciqikou area, especially a cross associated in modern scholarship with Jingjiao studies, have been used to suggest that Christian symbols and perhaps Christian movement reached farther into southwest China than the best-known northern sites alone would imply.1
