To its east lies Balū and to its west Kharput, contiguous to Armenia. Attestation of name شِمْشاط in the Muʿjam al-buldān of Yāqūt al-Ḥamawī. Moosa's English translation of Barsoum's description was incorrectly published under the headword "Samosata," while his description under the headword "Arsamosata" in fact describes the village Kaʿbiya. http://syriaca.org/place/286 http://pleiades.stoa.org/places/874354 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsamosata http://dbpedia.org/page/Arsamosata 504 The Scattered Pearls: A History of Syriac Literature and Sciences 551, 558 Muʿjam al-buldān Yāqūt al-Ḥamawī III:411
