A major maritime hub of the Yuan dynasty, known to Arab merchants as Zayton, located on the southeastern coast of Fujian province. It flourished as one of the world’s busiest ports in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, facilitating expansive Indian Ocean trade. Numerous fourteenth-century Syriac Christian tomb inscriptions discovered in Quanzhou attest to a substantial and enduring Church of the East merchant community under Mongol rule.6, 7, 8
