“على رأس جبل يشبه القلعة ولذلك سماه بعضهم دير الكهف بقرب ملطية ذكر في التاريخ الكنسي سنة 790 وصار كرسيا بطريركياً في القرن الحادي عشر حتى اواخر الثالث عشر، وكان ديرا عظيماً دعم اللكنيسة بخمسة بطاركة واربعة وثلاثين مطراناً، وظلّ عامراً آهلاً حتى اواسط القرن السابع عشر ثم عصف الدهر باهله”4

“built on top of a mountain near Melitene, it looks like a citadel, a fact which has led some writers to call it the Monastery of the Cave. It was first mentioned in church history in 790. It was the Patriarchal see from the eleventh century until the thirteenth century. A great monastery, it produced five patriarchs and forty-three metropolitans. It remained populated until the middle of the seventeenth century, when it was abandoned.”5
