In hagiography: According to the legend of the Teaching of Addai, King Abgar V "the Black" of Edessa converted to Christianity through the missionary work of the apostle Addai. This led to the conversion of the city of Edessa.
The saint is venerated on West Syrians: March 1, 11, 13 and 14 of May, August 1.
