This paper gives a proposal, how this relationship can be systemized conceptually through a model of intertextuality, which is classified as counterfactual. This model of intertextuality is exemplified with the announcement and birth stories of Jesus and John in the Qurʾān. It is further argued that counterfactual intertextuality in the Qurʾān addresses certain Christological and soteriological motives in the tradition of Syriac Christianity.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
