Sergius' role in the transmission of Greek science into the East is discussed, particularly in relation to the later Hunayn, and it is suggested that previous comments on the perceived shortcomings of his translation technique, especially in his use of transliterations, are in need of revision. Specific examples are discussed that show the value as well as the problems with his approach.
