This (originally Egyptian) text integrates Dioscorus’ refusal to accept the Tome of Leo into a broader narrative of Egyptian ecclesiastical history. When the History of Dioscorus was rendered into Syriac, the bishop’s profile was subtly enhanced and reinterpreted. In this Syriac reinterpretation, Dioscorus became an heir to both Alexandrian and Antiochene exemplars and an inspiration to the future Antiochene patriarch Severus. Without changing the meaning or events of Dioscorus’ life, these few scattered references to Syrian figures expanded the resonance of Dioscorus’ career by creating a common history for the anti-Chalcedonian communities of Egypt and Syria.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
