[...] Here I propose to extend de Halleux's discussion in four respects: First, for Ephrem God's love of human beings leads not only to transformations of Himself at the moments, so to speak, of Creation and Incarnation, but these transformations are both continuous and individualized for each human being. Second, these special concessions of God to humanity have the intention of restoring the "imago Dei" in us both collectively and individually. Third, these notions are quite similar to ideas of spiritual growth found in Origen of Alexandria. Fourth, both Ephrem and Origen use examples drawn from the New Testament to illustrate God's personalized attention to our spiritual life, on occasion using the same exemples to illustrate similar points."
