The cleaning revised our understanding of the mellowing effect of a thick yellow varnish layer on bright pigments. Hidden details were rediscovered, providing new stylistic clues. The re-restored icon contributes to the body of ongoing studies of the artistic interaction in the Eastern Mediterranean during the crusader presence, 1187-1291.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
