Canivet and M. T. Fortuna Canivet, has recently revealed an underground cave dedicated to the cult of Mithra. After its destruction and filling-up, this mithraeum was replaced by a first church, which has not been precisely dated. The discovery of a new baptistery associated to this first church in Hawarte has enlightened the site’s chronology. Two inscriptions, one on the mosaic and the other on the entrance lintel, give a date of 420/421 for the construction, under bishop Alexander. The church itself is probably contemporary. The destruction of the mithraeum must have occurred shortly before.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
