G. Levi della Vida, who edited and translated this treatise on the basis of Arabic and Syriac witnesses, considered that this treatise goes back to a Greek original dating from the late Hellenistic period, but considered that the cosmographic-astrological texts, of Mesopotamian origin according to him, were not part of it. However, by comparing all the witnesses, it is possible to distinguish several editorial layers within this cluster, including a fifth-century core that we call Chapter on the Temperature of the Earth (Ch. STT). Examination of this single core and comparison with other 6th-century Syriac sources allow us to formulate another hypothesis: that of a Ch. STT initially integrated into the Philosophical Treatise on the Soul, which it would have concluded in the manner of the Phaedo's “Geographical Myth of the Destiny of Souls”. This investigation into the origin of the text is based on a renewed translation and edition of the Syriac version, which can be found at the end of the article. A series of remarks on the translation of the text show that elements of cosmography essential to the understanding of the text (notably the embedding of the planets and fixed stars in large spheres) allow us to envisage an original Greek redaction of this text, perhaps in the Roman period (1st-3rd century).</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
