The analysis of music examples collected from Kerala, India and the diasporic Indian Christian community in the New York city shows that the family history and personal music experiences of performers are among the factors that account for variations in individual interpretations. The Christian colonization of Kerala by the Persians and the introduction of Syriac (Aramaic) liturgical music, and the intercultural music processes within Kerala have greatly influenced the melodic formulations. In the process underlying the formulation of these melodies, we find a model of the formation and transformation of musical styles in India.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
