Four phases are identified here based on chronology and style. Over time Philoxenos moved from a disputational approach relying on scriptural arguments and the Syriac literary tradition of Ephrem to an emphasis on historical precedent and the orthodox pedigree of the Miaphysite tradition and finally to a more pragmatic strategy for the success of the Miaphysite Christology within the Imperial Church.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
