On the one hand, there are the well-known arguments against authenticity drawn from the fact that Alfonso Mingana's edition of the text differs in a mysterious and suspicious way from its seeming only manuscript. It seems reasonable to suspect that the Chronicle is its own editor's forgery. And so we are inclined to neglect it as a precaution. But on the other hand, we cannot overlook the fact that in some places the Chronicle of Arbela gives the impression of being more credible than all other avaible sources. And that looks rather like an argument for its authenticity." (pp. 39-40)
