The longevity of the tradition meant that the ‘Anathema of Paradise’ still occurs in handbooks of prayer-amulets that were used by the Christian communities in northern Mesopotamia until the mid-nineteenth century. The Turfan fragments of the ‘Anathema of Paradise’ do not include the hallmarks of the anathema genre, but are distinguished by long listings of names. These may hark back to the seventh century work by ‘Enānišo, <i>The Fathers of Paradise</i>, thus recalling and upholding the Church of the East’s great ascetic heritage.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
