It was a period of isolation and “orientalization” of the Middle Eastern Patriarchates. However, several zones of contacts between various Greek Orthodox peoples were still preserved, first of all the Sinai monastery of St. Catherine, Jerusalem, the Judean desert monasteries, etc. The author analyzes the degree of spread of the Greek language and Greek liturgy in the Patriarchates of Jerusalem, Alexandria and Antioch in the late Mamluk period. Particular attention is paid to the autographs of the Patriarchs and other clerics, especially their Greek signatures as well as to the circulation of Greek and bilingual Greek-Arabic books in the Late Medieval Middle East.
