According to the established use of the Syriac inscriptions and manuscripts, the year 1055, mentioned in one of the inscriptions, is given according to the Seleucid era. It corresponds to the year A. D. 744. Thanks to the Monophysite Jacobite chronicler Denis of Tell-Mahre, we have a striking description of the tragic situation of Syria in year 744, presented as troubled, with strife spreading all over the region of Syria-Palestine. Severe drought, starvation, and plague were raging and decimating the population. The author of our inscriptions could, and this is a much probable interpretation, fly from the plague which was raging with the same intensity in the Hauran. he then happened to follow the Wadi Rajil, desiccated during this dry spring.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
