A comparative analysis of these versions makes it possible to reconstruct the Christological formula of Theodore; it also shows that the Syriac and Latin translators were following the model of translating Greek theological terminology which can be regarded as “standard”. Moreover, those translations which were made in the 5th century in the school of Edessa and which may have resulted in the translation of Theodore’s most important Christological treatise De Incarnatione into Syriac, came to be a great contribution in developing the above-mentioned “standard” translation model. The article shows that this translation is the best witness to the text of De Incarn. VIII 62 in contrast to the quotations given by Theodore’s opponents which apparently drew on the fl orilegium that contained interpolations. A comparison of these fragments allows us to carry out a detailed study of methods of translating Christological terms used by Christian intellectuals of the 5th-6th centuries including those who worked at Syriac educational centers. The Latin versions of the fragments will be studied not in isolation but against the background of the Western theological terminology.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
