The article is dedicated to an interesting case from «The Lives of the Eastern Saints» written by John of Ephesus (VIth century) who relates the story of a certain hermit Symeon the Mountaineer. The author comes to the conclusion that Symeon's solitary monastic life was typologically akin to the mission of the «Syrian Fathers» in Eastern Georgia. This could provide a new argument in favour of widespread character of monastic missionary activities in the Middle East during the epoch in question.
