In the second half of the sixth century, the churches of the Chalce- donians, Monophysites and Eastern Syrians were not only at odds with each other, but each also suffered from inner discord over the definition of the human and divine natures in Jesus. Obviously influenced by these polemics, the Qur'ānic movement was formed amongst the Arabs around 602. It re- jected the Monophysite and Chalcedonian Christology of the suffering God on the cross. Starting from the Eastern Syrian concept of Jesus’ human suf- fering on the cross, this movement formulated the kerygma of a divinely born, miracle-working Jesus, whose death on the cross and resurrection, however, remain only hinted at. With this reinterpretation, Jesus is inter- preted as but one of the many proclaimers, who, since creation, preached God’s unchanging message of the Last Judgment – a reinterpretation which forms the core of the Qur'ān.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
