The numerous variants and plusses which are formulated differently from manuscript to manuscript point to narratological principles. They hint at a rank growth („Wildwuchs") of oral re-telling. The fact that these variants are present in the manuscripts gives the interesting opportunity to study the principles of oral and written transmission - not by hypothetical interference, but on the basis of real textual evidence.
