Although Apamea-on-the-Orontes was a leading center of mosaic production at the turn of the fourth century, it is legitimate to wonder whether an independent workshop, possibly based in Epiphania, concurrently operated to produce these particular mosaics. Three monuments were selected for comparison. Situated north-east of Hama and flanking the ancient roads connecting Antioch to Epiphania, they are the church mosaics of Khirbet Muqa, dated 394/395, Murik and Qumhane, these two attributed to the beginning of the fifth century; Qumhane, in turn, was compared to the cathedral of Epiphania, dated by an inscription to 416 AD. Thus, the probability that the mosaics of Khirbet Muqa, Murik and Qumhane were made by the same workshop is consolidated, not only by the internal criteria used to identify a workshop, but also by an external criterion : that of sufficient demand and the financial means to provide for it: in this particular instance, the socio-economic context of pilgrimage to the Holy Land.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
