After noting some of the ambiguities surrounding certain of the standard technical terms, and the confusion this caused, a brief outline is given of the various forms in which Christological controversies are encountered in Syriac. By way of illustration, two different texts, one of a real dialogue, the other imagined, are presented in more detail: first, the record of conversations between Chalcedonian and Miaphysite bishops in Constantinople in 532, and second, a verse dialogue between Cyril and Nestorius, transmitted in the East Syriac tradition.
