St. John Chrysostom (?407 A.D.). Both the Byzantine and the Syriac liturgies stress the vision of the Saviour's baptism and bless the waters in a very solemn way. In some local churches, the blessing of the waters is taking place, if possible, on the shore of the sea, on the bank of a river, or at a well outside the church. There is no doubt that the blessing of waters on Epiphany is very popular among the faithful."
