This year is drawn from a passage in Cedrenus. However, Cedrenus does not at all confirm the commonly accepted date, and the thesis that both translationes must be put in the same year is mere speculation. Later sources clearly show that the relics of the True Cross cannot have been transferred to Constantinople later than 573. Furthermore, taking the early religious policy of Justin II into consideration, it seems probable that both objects have been brought to Constantinople sometime in Justin’s early years.
