Ter-Petrossian’s book on Armeno-Syriac literary connections during the Cilician period remains fundamental for this area of enquiry. In this paper I wish to make a tribute to his scholarship both on the Armenian Cilician history and Armeno-Syriac connections by examining a specific source relevant to these areas of study. This article will draw attention to a short but complex text – a Colophon – written by the thirteenth-century renowned Armenian theologian, historian and monastic teacher Vardan Vardapet Arewelc‘i on the Mongols. It was penned in 1248 while Vardan resided in Cilicia and was involved in the translation of the Chronicle of Michael the Syrian to Armenian. The Colophon was, indeed, appended to that translation. The article will trace how Michael the Syrian’s representation of the Seljuqs was used by Vardan Arewelc‘i to describe the Mongols. It will also explore a thirteenth-century version of the Vision of St. Nersēs the Great as another important source of inspiration for Vardan Arewelc‘i’s Colophon.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
