The stele should originally come from ancient Edessa. The upper half of the stele bearing the date of A.D. 176/177, is already known since the publication of J. B. Segal in 1970 ("Edessa. The Blessed City"), but only the lower part of the stele, which has appeared meanwhile, allows us an actual knowledge. Segal and Parlasca give only the top. The scenary of the stele is definitely a paganic religious one, because of the thymiaterion between the two men (perhaps soldiers?) wearing Parthian trousers and a sort of paludamentum as well as the word " ὁ κύριος" at the end of the first line of the Greek inscription. The stone itself is not of Palmyrenian style.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
