His “Versio Monumenti seu Lapidis Sinici”, made in Rome in 1741, is a document of greatest interest, not on account of the quality of the translation, which the French sinologist Paul Pelliot has called “without value”, but because – coming from a non-Jesuit milieu, indeed, in opposition to the Jesuit milieu – it is unique in terms of reconstructing the process of reception, interpretation, and use of the Xi’an Stele text in the Christian mission in China.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
