Of him we know only that he is the author of a fully extant work entitled On the Nature of Man, universally known by its Latin title De natura hominis, the first known compendium of theological anthropology with a Christian orientation. Nemesius’ view of the soul is essentially Platonist and he insists on the distinction between soul and body. The soul is superior to the body ans uses it as an instrument, a view for which Nemesius cites Plato. Also, Nemesius rejects pagan philosophical views both of the soul as corporeal, and of it as incorporeal but non-substantial. Nemesius rejects the idea that souls are created by God at the same time as bodies and of the view that they are inherited from parents reflects an insistance that the soul, even through not in the strict sense eternal, has existed from the beginning of the world and will exist forever.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
