The research is carried out on the basis of the still unpublished and not fully studied manuscript Dorn 622 (= St Petersburg Syr. 33) which is kept in the manuscript department of the Russian National Library. After a brief description of the life and works of the exegete, as well as manuscripts containing his comments, the author explores all examples of etymological analysis of Hebrew words in Ishodad’s Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew. The author infers that Ishodad includes Hebrew vocabulary in those cases when it is present in the original Gospel text itself. As a rule, these words are transliterated with Syriac letters and are left without translation. On the other hand, this borrowed lexicon has purely religious meaning and is not used outside this semantic field.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
